Environmental Protection

UAV Services

There are numerous uses for drones when undertaking environmental projects. This may include aquatics, wildlife, environmental monitoring, or base mapping needs. When we speak about environmental protection, we also include incident management in the discussion. Strategic has permission to operate our UAVs for wildfire scanning, and we also have successfully utilized UAVs for spill response:

  • Map the aquatic environment (stream morphology, fish counts, fish barriers)
  • Provide reconnaissance in steep slope areas or heli-access areas
  • Thermal hotspot scanning to provide maps to wildfire crew members
  • Mapping and reconnaissance for spill response
  • Highlight invasive species and relative health of vegetation

End Products

When Strategic works with clients for environmental protection, there are a number of different UAV products we may deliver:

  • High resolution imagery (3 cm/pixel or better)
  • Thermal data through a live feed or georeferenced map
  • Near-infrared data to show vegetation health
  • Terrain models, and ability to view the site in 3D
  • Contour maps

When investigating fish and fish habitat, UAVs are a useful tool for examining stream morphology, fish barriers and other habitat characteristics.

Flexible Approach

As always, we can take different paths on our approach to save you time and money.

  1. Provide complete service: UAV mapping, processing and delivery.
  2. Alternatively, we can help you to get setup with your own UAV and enable you to process on your own.
  3. We can also take a hybrid approach, where you fly and we process the data
(or vice versa) and help you make the most out of the data you collect.

Cost

For spill monitoring, thermal cameras can be used to continue monitoring the spill during low light or night operations.
